Detection-only versus detection and identification of model misspecifications

Abstract It is common practice to use the well-known concept of minimal detectable bias (MDB) assess performance statistical testing procedures. However, such procedures are usually applied a null and set multiple alternative hypotheses with aim selecting most likely one. Therefore, in DIA method for detection, identification adaptation model misspecifications, rejection hypothesis followed by potential source misspecification. With included, MDBs do not truly reflect capability procedure should therefore be replaced identifiable (MIB). In this contribution, we analyse MDB MIB, highlight their differences, describe impact on nonlinear DIA-estimator parameters. As inherits all probabilistic properties procedure, differences MIB propagation will also reveal different consequences detection-only approach has versus detection+identification approach. Numerical algorithms presented computing effect DIA-estimator. These then number examples so as illustrate concepts.
